(Dependent KITAS – Family Residence Permit)

It is well known that foreign spouses of Indonesian citizens are entitled to obtain legal residence in Indonesia.
However, the Directorate General of Immigration has gone even further — introducing a special visa type that allows any foreign resident holding a valid Indonesian residence permit to sponsor and bring their immediate family members to live with them in Indonesia.

Who Can Be Sponsored Under the Family Visa?

A foreign resident in Indonesia can sponsor the following family members:

  • Father
  • Mother
  • Spouse
  • Children under 18 years old

Family visas are available for 1-year or 2-year durations, and the sponsor may choose the preferred period based on their needs.

Yes. Children holding a Family Visa are allowed to study legally in Indonesia and participate in daily activities freely, just like local residents.

Yes. The Family Visa is linked to the sponsor’s residence permit.
If the main sponsor (usually the father) obtains a Permanent Stay Permit (KITAP), the same permanent status can automatically be extended to eligible family members.

The requirements are simple and similar to other visa types, with a few additional family documents:

  • Copy of the passport for each family member.
  • Recent passport-size photo with a white background.
  • Marriage certificate of the parents.
  • Birth certificates of the children to prove family relationship.
